Richard “Dick” L. Solomon, age 92, passed away on March 29, 2025 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Dick was born on February 8, 1933 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of the late Henry and Ann Solomon (Milstein). He lived in Springfield through early adulthood before completing his military service in Korea.
After honorable discharge from the US Army, Finance Corps, he attended American International College in Springfield and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Dick earned his Master of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.
Service and helping others defined his career.
He was a pioneer in the field of higher education, specializing in student financial aid and working as a leader and trainer in many professional organizations. He held administrative positions at Trenton State College, Temple University, Hofstra University, and the City University of New York (CUNY). Dick headed the financial aid department for the entire CUNY system. He also worked for the Department of Education, New York Regional Office. Eventually he set up his own business, Academic Management, Inc. In 2003, he received a Lifetime Service Award from CUNY.
Dick was recognized as an Outstanding Volunteer at Temple Emanuel of West Essex in Livingston, New Jersey in 2012 where he was a member for more than 30 years. He also sang in the choir and participated in weekly Torah study.
Following residence in Millburn, New Jersey for more than 45 years, Dick relocated to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2015. At Beth Hillel Temple in Kenosha, Wisconsin Dick served as the administrative leader of the Torah study group, more than tripling the size of the group since 2015. He also served on the Adult Education committee.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Karen Solomon (Wahler); his daughters Debra Solomon (David Domash) and Sara LaVallee (Sean) and grandchildren Doran and Meira Domash.
He was preceded in death by his brother Gerald Solomon.

The family requests donations to the Adult Engagement Committee of Beth Hillel Temple or WQXR public radio in New York City which gave him a great deal of pleasure.
The family will receive visitors at Beth Hillel Temple in Kenosha at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1. The funeral will take place at 12 noon with burial immediately following with Military Honors at B’nai Zedek Cemetery.
