Richard J. Rzonca age 92 of Twin Lakes, WI peacefully passed away on December 22, 2023 at Geneva Lake Manor in Lake Geneva, WI. He was born on December 3, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Harriet (Orzechowski) Rzonca. On October 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joan Ammon. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 through 1954. After military service, Richard and Joan settled in Chicago, IL, where they built a home and began their family.
Richard was a member of the Ironworkers Union Local #1, and for over 40 years, he helped define the Chicago skyline by working on the Sears Tower, John Hancock, and many other iconic buildings. He volunteered 38 years for the Wilmot Ski Patrol at Wilmot Mountain where he skied well into his 80’s. During the summer months, you would find him out on the lake sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, or just enjoying a refreshing swim. His love for snow and water sports continues to live on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a longstanding and beloved member of Grace Lutheran Church of Richmond, IL where he regularly served his church and congregation. Every Wednesday, Richard volunteered at McHenry Hospital transporting patients to and from their procedures. He nurtured many valuable friendships over his lifetime, and for the last 20 years, participated in weekly gatherings as a member of the Twin Lakes Senior Club.
Richard led a very full and meaningful life that touched many. He was loved and will be missed tremendously.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joan Rzonca. He is deeply missed by his four children: Debbie (Don) Miskell, Paul (Noriko) Rzonca, Diane Chuen, and Peter (Nancy) Rzonca. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jimmy, Corrine (Jason) Quade, Hiroshi, Sydney, Aubrey, Ben, Olivia, Sam, Jake, Greta, Huntley, Kaleb, Aria, Jordan, and Aubree. In his passing, Richard is reunited with his sister, Irene Faggiani.
