Robert (Bob) W. Johnson, age 96, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather peacefully took his last breath at home, where he wanted to be, on August 30th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
After graduating from Washington Park High School in Racine, Wisconsin he volunteered for service in the Army Air Force during World War II, even fudging his age slightly to qualify. After the war he attended Aeronautical Engineering school in Oklahoma.
In 1950, he married Mary Fergus at First Presbyterian Church where they were active members for all 74 years of their marriage.
He served on the Racine County Board for 16 years and was a proud member of the 8th Air Force Association. He enjoyed many hobbies which included woodworking, stained glass and chair caning, which he lovingly shared with his daughters, grandchildren and friends.
After his retirement from Twin Disc, he was fortunate to enjoy 34 years which allowed him to travel to many parts of the world. Highlights of his golden years included participating in Honor Flight, and touring Russia, China, and the Normandy landing beaches.
He was a voracious consumer of World War II movies and books. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary, and his three daughters, Jennifer (Jack) Swartz, Susan (Casey) Fitzgerald, and Lynn (Dennis) Gohlke, along with 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday, September 7th. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. on First Presbyterian Church, 716 College Avenue, Racine. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Racine, or Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd, Pleasant Prairie, 53158.
