Roger W. Smith, 87, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his residence.
He was born on September 23, 1933 to the late Lloyd W. and Alice L. (Kirchenbauer) Smith in Kane County, IL. He was educated in Illinois and Indiana. Roger was a farmer until he came to Kenosha in 1964.
Roger worked as a janitor for the Kenosha County Courthouse and retired after 30 years, the last five years at the Kenosha County building on Hwy 50 and Hwy 45 as head of maintenance.
He married Jean Tiffany in September of 1957 in Janesville. They later divorced. On August 8, 1992 he married Dorothy “Dodie” Dutton in Kenosha.
Roger was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was very active.
Roger was a member of ICH Collectors Chapter 4, and volunteered at the Shalom Center since 1999 and produced food for the food pantry. Roger was also a Boy Scout Leader.
Roger enjoyed gardening, camping and playing cribbage. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Roger is survived by his wife Dodie, his children Matthew (Linda) Smith of Clarence, MO, Marie Gibson of Sturtevant, Mark (Jill) Tisdale of Kenosha and Jackie (Miles) Hartley of Racine, his grandchildren Elizabeth, Megan, Samantha, Alexandra, Lauren, Luke, Collin, Tate and Sidney and his brother Harold Paul Smith.
He is preceded in death by his sisters Geraldine Blankenshine and Betty Mae Yohnka.
Funeral Services for Roger will be held on Saturday, March 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church (4600 – 60th St.). Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials would be appreciated to Wesley United Methodist Church or to the Shalom Center.
