Stewart “Stew” James Holcomb, 82, of Kenosha, passed away surrounded by his wife and many loved ones on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center.
Stew was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on October 7, 1942, to the late Stewart Dudley and Ellen (Duffy) Holcomb. He was educated in Pennsylvania, graduating from Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School in 1961. After graduation he enlisted into the US Air Force as a Reserve serving as a Fire Protection Specialist, an Air Policeman and a Security Policeman until honorably discharged in 1968. He worked as an Owner-Operator Truck Driver, contracting with many companies such as Quality Carrier, Parr, and Sinclair over the course of his 57-year career before he retired. Stew enjoyed driving truck and prided himself in his work and near clean driving record. Having only received one single speeding ticket in his entire career made it coincidental that his handle name was “Lucky”.
Stew met his wife, Phyllis in 1982 and soon moved to Wisconsin. They were married in Elkhorn, WI with a surprise ceremony at a family reunion in 1990. In their 42 years together, they enjoyed vacations with family and trips to the casino. He and Phyllis patterned in trucking and traveled cross country. Stew taught her how to drive a semi-truck and she taught him how to drive a motorcycle. In addition to trucking, Stew enjoyed driving nice vehicles such as his Corvette and Lincolns. He was a member of the NRA and the Kenosha Moose Lodge since 1990.
Stew was a gentle man with a big heart who would help anyone in need. He wouldn’t be the loudest in the room, but some would say he was the most sincere. He was very reliable for the latest news update as he was always knowledgeable on the current events of the world along with many other topics. Often times being told he should have tried out for Jeopardy because he would have been a worthy opponent.
Along with his wife, Phyllis (Bowker) Holcomb, Stew is survived by his two sons, Stewart Holcomb, Jr. of Kenosha, WI and William Holcomb of Pennsylvania; his two stepdaughters, Tamara Schlevensky (Ray Drew) and Carolyn (Bill) Garbers, both of Kenosha. And additionally, being blessed whether by blood or by marriage with nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
