With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William J. “Bill” Scuglik, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, who left us peacefully at the age of 97 on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Born in Kenosha, WI on July 26, 1927, to Stefan and Pauline Scuglik. Bill lived a life full of warmth, compassion, and a spirit for helping others.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Fireman First Class on the aircraft carrier, USS Kearsarge, and was honorably discharged in August of 1946
On September 11, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Elsie (Cosentino) Scuglik at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Bill began his professional life as a firefighter for the City of Kenosha Fire Department, assigned to Station #3. After leaving the fire department, he acquired a new set of skills as a cement finisher with Grno Construction. Bill’s health took a turn which then gave him the opportunity to fine tune his culinary skills as the manager of his father-in-law’s pizza house, Mike’s Pizza, in Waukegan, Illinois. Rounding out his career, Bill accepted a position as a Supervisor for American Motors until his retirement in 1984.
After retirement, “Mr. Fix-It” continued to help his friends and family by fixing clocks, snowblowers, lawnmowers, and painting houses. He also served as a Bailiff for Commissioner for Carl Greco. For many years, Bill and Elsie enjoyed spending time at their “up north home” in Wild Rose, Wisconsin, playing horseshoes, sitting around the campfire, and enjoying cocktails with their best friends, Frank & Georgia Hujik and Pete & Edie Rizzo. As Elsie’s health later declined, Bill dedicated his life to caring for his bride until her passing in 2018.
Bill was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol Assembly #113, a charter member of the Kenosha Senior Center, was active in St. Jude’s League, and was a life-long member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Bill also proudly supported local police and fire departments and never missed a chance to play a game of bridge or cheer on his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon (Peter) Scuglik Simo; grandson, Nick Simo; and sister-in-law, Gloria Scuglik. Whether he was sharing stories with family or lending a helping hand to friends, Bill’s kindness and spirit touched the lives of many.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Scuglik; his brothers, Joseph (Bernice) Scuglik, Anthony Scuglik, Rudolph (Dolores) Scuglik, Paul (Pauline) Scuglik and Steve (Ann) Scuglik and his sister at infancy, Wilma Scuglik.
Bill’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Azura Memory Care of Kenosha, Kenosha Hospice Alliance, Dina Flannery, and her dog, Willow, for their compassion, patience, and love during his journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

SERVICE LOCATION St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church
A visitation for Bill will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 5100 22nd Ave, Kenosha, WI, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m.
At the conclusion of the Mass, full military honors will be presented.
Private interment will be held in St. George Cemetery.
